API 2500 Bus Compressor Battery Mod

The API 2500 ships with a CR2450 coin cell battery that holds its charge for a few months at best. When it dies, the compressor loses its settings. It is a minor but recurring annoyance that has a straightforward fix.

The Mod

Pick up a standard AA or AAA battery pack with solder leads. API has included battery solder pads on the board specifically for this purpose. Solder the leads from the battery pack to those pads, remove the CR2450, mount the pack to the chassis with double-sided tape, and install the batteries.

3M 110 double-sided foam tape works well for mounting. It handles heat up to 220°F, which is adequate for the thermal environment inside the chassis.

The mod takes less than ten minutes. AA batteries will last years rather than months. I have not needed to change mine in over two years.
